- Obverse: The Lady Liberty, on the obverse, stands tall and proud, yet displays a tenderness at the same time. This popular design of the Lady comes from the famous design by Adolph A. Weinman. This German-American sculptor was given the honor of designing the Walking Liberty half -dollar, which was in circulation from 1916-1947. This design became so popular that the US Mint decided to resurrect it for the American Silver Eagle. Each silver eagle contains the Lady Liberty, dressed in a lightweight robe, with the American flag discreetly draped over her shoulders. One arm is outstretched while the other is clinging onto a bundle of branches. The rising sun, behind her, is slowly coming up to offer hope with a new day. "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and the coin's date of mintage is included on the obverse.
